• LA Times’ Hero Complex reports that Sigourney Weaver is up for returning to her signature role of Ellen Ripley. “I do feel like there is more story to tell,” she told an audience at the Hero Complex Film Festival. “I feel a longing from fans for the story to be finished. I could imagine a situation where we finish telling the story.”

Dread Central got Andy Serkis talking about the upcoming Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes , and the motion capture legend set the scene for a movie set ten years after Rise…. “Caesar has galvanised all these tribes of apes, and it’s succeeding, it’s working,” he explained. “The next generation is becoming educated; the design of their community reflects their intelligence.”

“They are resourceful, they can build aqueducts, they have plentiful food supplies, they respect each other as different species: gorilla, orangutan, chimpanzee can all speak equally and communicate equally. Until the arrival of human beings…”

• Marvel is still looking for a new Ant-Man director after Edgar Wright’s departure ( let us know what you think about that for next month’s SFX Hot Topic ). One man who’s taken himself out of the running is Anchorman helmer Adam McKay, who took to Twitter to say: “And yes, met w/Marvel. Kirby & Lee r my Lennon McCartney so it was awesome. But have other projects I’m committed to. Not sure it can work.”

Still in the reckoning, says The Wrap , are Dodgeball and We Are The Millers ‘ Rawson Marshall Thurber, and Zombieland ‘s Ruben Fleischer. Fleischer is reportedly also in the running for the longest-in-gestation Ghostbusters 3 .

• Ben Foster has blabbed to IGN about his role in Duncan Jones’ Warcraft movie. “What’s exciting about Duncan Jones’ take on this video game is that it shows both sides of the war,” he said. “It shows both sides of a conflict, which is exciting to me. It’s not just a videogame turned into a movie. It’s asking, hopefully, an important question of, where do we limit our compassion for what we consider to be the bad guys?”

• Detroit has revealed its metal statue tribute to RoboCop, just in time for the remake arriving on DVD and Blu-ray next week. (The film’s already available to own digitally.)

• We’ve had a first glimpse of the new Lego Guardians Of The Galaxy sets. “Starblaster Showdown”, “Knowhere Escape Mission” and “The Milano Spaceship Rescue” are on sale now in the UK.

Secret Cinema is recreating Hill Valley in London! “Secret Cinema Presents Back To The Future ” runs from 24 July-10 August, and will give you the chance to visit Marty McFly’s hometown in 1955, 1985 and 2015 incarnations. Of course, there’ll also be a chance to see one of the greatest movies of all time (we mean Back To The Future ). Tickets go on sale tomorrow .

Joss Whedon’s latest film, Star Wars , Spider-Man and more! It’s your sci-fi news round-up

• Joss Whedon has released his latest film In Your Eyes online. The paranormal romance premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday. It was written by Whedon and directed by Brin Hill. The film stars Zoe Karan and Michael Stahl-David, playing two people who share a telepathic bond. You can view it online (opens in new tab) for $5 (around £2.98).

• Simon Kinberg, screenwriter of one of the upcoming Star Wars spin-off movies, has said that his film won’t explore the expanded universe. While we might see the appearance of some new planets and solar systems, Kinberg won’t be setting any of his script in the worlds that appeared outside of the six films in the canon established by books, comics and videogames.

• Dragon enthusiasts will be excited to hear that Yahoo Movies have posted the first 5 minutes of How To Train Your Dragon 2 online. The clip shows a new dragon sport in action, and also Hiccup and Toothless discovering a new part of the dragon inhabited world.

• In gaming news, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Unity is rumoured to be the first in a new series of games that will feature four-player co-op. In the previous Assassin’s Creed games the multiplayer element was only available for training and battle sections, but this new development means that for the first time multiple players will be able to work together.

• Terminator fans rejoice! Terminator: Genesis began the first stage of filming in New Orleans yesterday. Arnold Schwarzenegger was on set, dressed in the Terminator’s classic leather trousers. It is unclear so far what they were filming, but Arnold surely will be back in more behind the scenes images soon.

• The premiere of Season six of True Blood was watched by 4.5m people. Although this is actually down on the Season five opener, which delivered 5.2m, it outranked the first episode of Game of Thrones Season 3. [Via The Hollywood Reporter ]

• Jamie Payne has been revealed as the director of the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas special . It will be Matt Smith’s final episode as the Doctor, so expect some tears this Christmas. [Via Blogtor Who ]

• With plans for a Prometheus sequel underway, it has been announced that Jack Paglen will be writing the script. The Transcendence scribe – Wally Pfister’s directorial debut – is hoping to bring together all the loose ends that left fans disappointed in the first Alien prequel. [Via Collider ]

• With filming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in its fifth week, photos have been revealed of the hero’s new suit. [Via Coming Soon ]

• It looks like Spider-Man will not be able to take a rest in the next few years. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is already in production and Sony has announced dates for two further films in 2016 and 2018. They must have a lot of confidence in the web-slinger franchise. [Via Slash Film ]

• According to The Wrap , Ryan Reynolds has exited the upcoming reboot of Highlander . The Summit project already lost its director when Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, of 28 Weeks Later fame, left last year.

• Following Vin Diesel’s release of the new poster for Riddick , an international trailer is now available. Riddick will be in the cinemas on 6 September. [Via Coming Soon ]

• The oft-delayed Sin City sequel, A Dame to Kill For, has been hit by another setback. The long-awaited film’s release was originally planned for October 2013 but it has been pushed back to August 2014. [Via Collider ]
